Masked Tityra, Tityra semifasciata, tityra, tyrant-flycatcher, bird, honduras

Masked Tityra (Tityra semifasciata)

When we visited Honduras earlier this year, we were mainly based at the Pico Bonito lodge. From the veranda of our room we could often see Masked Tityras (Tityra semifasciata) high in the trees surrounding the cabins. Only once did a bird come low enough and close enough for me to be able to take a photo.

Tityras are odd-looking birds that were previously classed in the Cotinga family. Currently they taxonomically reside with the Tyrant-flycatchers.
