I used to visit Seattle quite often and, whilst there, I got to know the excellent wildlife photographer and all-round nice guy Max Waugh (you can check out his website here). One time we decided to head up over the Canadian border for the day (which you can easily do when based in Seattle). One location we visited was the Boundary Bay regional park, which is just south of Vancouver. This is an excellent area to look for owls in the winter/early spring and we were fortunate to get great views of this Northern Long-eared Owl (Asio otus). This species of owl has a wide global distribution, occurring throughout northern North America, Europe and Asia.
