When I travelled around Colombia, one of the many exciting birds that we encountered was the Tanager Finch (Oreothraupis arremonops). This bird is monotypic, which means that it is the only species in it’s Genus. Not quite a tanager and not quite a cardinal, this bird is still something of a mystery to taxonomists. All very scientific and latin-sounding!
We found this bird in the Yellow-eared Parrot reserve near the beautiful town of Jardin, which is situated between the San Juan river and a branch of the western Cordillera of the Colombian Andes.
