Violet-fronted Brilliant (Heliodoxa leadbeateri)

Whilst I was travelling in Ecuador, I managed to capture this Violet-fronted Brilliant (Heliodoxa leadbeateri) posing at just the right angle to show where it gets it’s name from! As perceived hummingbird colours depend on the angle at which light reflects off their feathers, sometimes hummingbirds can appear quite dull and dark. Then, as the hummingbird changes position, suddenly it’s full beauty is revealed! As always, I never use flash under these circumstances, mainly as I don’t like the resulting images.
