Grey Hawk (Buteo nitidus)

I photographed this bird in southern Arizona, USA. As you can see, this bird looks pretty odd-it has a mixture of brown and grey feathers, whilst it’s chest is patchily covered in grey barring. Having checked with experts, it turns out that this bird is a immature Grey Hawk (Buteo nitidus) which is transitioning into it’s adult plumage, hence it’s confusing appearance!
