American Black Bear (Ursus americanus)

When I visited Yellowstone National Park in the USA in early June a few years ago, it was the perfect time to see American Black Bear (Ursus americanus) cubs out and about exploring. We were very lucky to spot this youngster very close to the road-he’d just been attempting to climb the tree that he’s standing next to in my photo. We managed to stop the car, wind down the window and quickly take a few photos before he ambled off out of view (where, presumably, mother was lurking!). I got quite confused with bear identification during this trip, as you can get brown Black Bears and black Brown (Grizzly) Bears!

What a cutie, he looks like he just got caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to! Another great photo Phil.
