Great Tinamou (Tinamus major)

Tinamous are one of those bird families that are much easier to hear than to see! Normally you might hear a Tinamou calling early in the morning as you walk along a path in the neotropical rainforest. However, when I visited La Selva biological station in Costa Rica, I was fortunate to be able to get a photo of thisĀ Great Tinamou (Tinamus major) which came walking right towards us! Strange birds, indeed…..
