Great Grey Owl (Strix nebulosa)

When I visited Finland a year ago I went on a day’s birding trip with Finnature, out of Kuusamo, which is close to the Russian border with Finland. This was a great way to be shown various bird species which would be practically impossible to find in the vast tracts of the Finnish forests on your own as a visitor. Our expert guide took us to a Great Grey Owl (Strix nebulosa) nest site, on the edge of a forest. Whilst watching the mother owl tend to her fledglings, we were very lucky to see the male owl bring in a food item (some kind of vole, I guess) to the nest.
