Juvenile Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis)

Perhaps the highlight of our recent trip to Canada was this wonderful encounter with a juvenile Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis). We were walking up a forested river valley in Kokanee Creek Provincial Park, near Nelson, British Colombia. Rounding a corner we disturbed this bird who was bathing/drinking in the river. It flew up into a nearby tree and I managed to get this photo before it flew off into the forest! A very lucky surprise!
