Booted Racket-tail (Ocreatus underwoodii)

When visiting Ecuador, we stayed at the rather luxurious El Septimo Paraiso lodge, near Mindo. This is a wonderful place for bird-watching and photography, located in the Andean cloud-forest. It’s a particularly good place for hummingbird photography, as they have many hummingbird feeder stations set up in the lodge grounds. The male Booted Racket-tail (Ocreatus underwoodii), with his long tail-streamers, was a particular challenge to photograph in flight. As with all my hummingbird photos, no flash or artificial light was used to take the photo.
