Apostlebird (Struthidea cinerea)

I took this photo of an Apostlebird (Struthidea cinerea) whilst visiting the BirdLife Australia Gluepot reserve which is near Walkerie in South Australia. At the time of my visit this part of Australia was in the grip of a long-lasting drought and I have an abiding memory of the heat and how ‘ready to burn’ all the vegetation looked. Unfortunately I also remember being constantly surrounded by swarms of flies which made me long for a wide-brimmed hat lined with corks on the end of pieces of string!
