Fiery-throated Hummingbird (Panterpe insignis)

The Fiery-throated Hummingbird (Panterpe insignis) is almost a Costa Rican endemic, occurring in the central highlands of Costa Rica and just sneaking into Panama. I took this photo whilst staying at the wonderful Paraiso Quetzal lodge, which is my favourite lodge in Costa Rica. I suspect that the hummingbird feeders which are directly behind the lodge restaurant are the best place in Costa Rica to see this wonderful hummingbird!
