Black-faced Solitaire (Myadestes melanops)

I took this photo of a Black-faced Solitaire (Myadestes melanops), a member of the thrush family, whilst staying at the Arenal Observatory Lodge in Costa Rica. This lodge is very popular with tourists as it offers a great view of the smouldering Arenal Volcano which is, perhaps, alarmingly nearby. Unless, of course, the volcano happens to be shrouded in cloud for the duration of your visit! Luckily, if volcanic views aren’t so great, the lodge grounds are wonderful for birding and photography!
