I took this photo of a male Black-winged Lovebird (Agapornis taranta) on the shore of Lake Awassa which is in the rift valley south of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. You can tell this bird is a male due to his red fore-crown, a feature absent in the female. We stayed in a hotel right by the lake and this turned out to be a fantastic area for bird watching and photography. Whilst staying there a huge rainstorm blew through the area, bringing in it’s wake an Arctic Tern, which turned out to be the first record for Ethiopia!
