When we were in Peru recently we had an exciting day out from Lima, the highlight of which was a short boat trip out of Pucusana Bay which is south of the capital. The trip was in a small fishing boat and once we left the shelter of the harbour, the sea became pretty choppy! The boat trip circles a rocky island which is covered in various sea-birds, the stars for me being these beautiful Peruvian Pelicans (Pelecanus thagus). The boat was rolling around so much that it made photography a real challenge-high shutter speed being vital to freeze all the movement.
This exciting day out is offered by Manu Expeditions Birding & Wildlife Tours-you can read more about it on their website here. The boat trip was a real thrill and I can heartily recommend it!
