I took this photo of a Giant Coot (Fulica gigantea) high up in the Peruvian Andes on a pretty, small and isolated lake. Giant Coots are able to fly during their first year of life, during which they have to make a big decision about which lake they want to spend the rest of their lives on. This is because they then become flightless, so are stuck with their choice of lake whether they like it subsequently or not!
